Minelab Explorer XS From my arsenal of detectors. I have too many so have tomake some space. As a long time Minelab user who has owned and used everythingfrom the Musketeer, Soverign GT, the ill-fated Quatro, all of the Exploders, Equinox andthe Etrac, there is a reason I held on to this machine for so long. The original Explorer which changed the game in metaldetecting; this machine was such a success Minelab had to stop selling it aspeople were not buying their latest machines. If one knows about metal detectors, this machine is more sophisticatedand more advanced than some of the popular, newer Minelabs’ today. For example, this machine is more sophisticated than the Equinox range as it uses morefrequencies and has a vast amount of program options. It also uses a wider range of id tones. The Equinox is afairly basic, entry-level machine with a bunch of newbee friendly presentoptions to choose from beach, park, relic etc (i own one – great for arable), whereas the Explorer is a moresophisticated beast and can be fine-tuned for virtually any conditions. This Explorer XS is arguably the more powerful or ‘raw’ of theExplorer range as over time Minelab ‘civilised’ the Explorer andintroduced more filters to the programing, hence it has been argued that thismachine is in fact the deepest of the lot. I have the Etrac and this machine inmy opinion is deeper seeking – the main difference between the two is the Etrachas a faster CPU and can download programs. The technology in metal detectors today has not surpassedthe multi frequency technology in this machine – fiddly wireless bluetooth withthree separate items to be charged and weight reduction being the maininnovations in metal detectors. This is not a standard Explorer XS. It has had its headphoneinput jack professionally converted by Minelab (when they were based inIreland) to a standard ¼ size, it has a carbon lower stem (inc a spare), anindestructible stainless steel arm rest cup, went through 3 plastic ones beforepaying a bit more and investing in something robust. Just had a service by mewhere I have changed the lower pressure pad and foam hand grip,it also has the excellent Detech 13 Ultimate coil which is both sensitive anddeep. Comes with 2 dry battery pods, no headphones sorry. Great machine, found many deep coins with it, esp onpasture. A top spec professional machine for the price of something entrylevel. Priced to sell. Inspection/demonstration welcome. Any questions pleaseask. Cheers.
